Care & Maintenance
All natural stone should be sealed
with a penetrating sealer to prevent staining. Marble
tops should be coated with a marble polish as well as
the sealer. This will leave a thin invisible layer that
enhances the stone while protecting its polished surface.
For routine cleaning, rinse using a neutral cleaner
with warm water and dry with a soft cloth.
Do not use any cleaners containing
ammonia or acids as these can break down the sealer
or mar the surface of softer stones such as marbles
and limestone. Do not use scouring pads or abrasive
cleaners as these may scratch those surfaces as well.
For Counter Cleaniness Granite
is the way to go
If you are concerned about bacterial
contamination of your kitchen countertop, it looks like
stainless steel and granite are the way to go. That
is what a recent study by the Hospitality Institute
of Technology and Management, a St. Paul, Minnesota-based
organization that develops educational materials and
research for the retail food industry shows.
The study measured the bacteria resistance
capacity of six common countertop materials. Each surface
was contaminated with E coli (nearly 2 billion of the
microorganisms), washed and rinsed with soap and water
and then sanitized with a vinegar-and-water solution.
